Every Christian needs to understand their Christian faith, what it means for them, and what is expected of them. And too many do not.

Many do not know how to explain their faith to others because it was never taught to them because while they got saved, they were never ‘discipled’.

The process of discipleship, which is a mentorship program, is near and dear to Jesus’ heart. It was the way he lived his life from birth. From spending the time like every Jewish boy to learn the scriptures, then he spent time with God developing a relationship with him so he could learn to become his son, and learn what his divine role on the earth was. He spent time waiting on his Father, which meant a time preparing for that role. He lived in anticipation of his role. Then he stepped into his divine role at the right time and accomplished it to the end, and brought salvation to the whole world as long as they choose to receive it.

Jesus modeled the life of a true discipler, then he tasked the believers to do as he did. He told them they would do greater things than he did. Greater not meaning to be more than him but to continue his work and reach the rest of the world after he would leave.

He made disciples when he was on the earth, and he taught them and prepared them to carry on his work. And as he was leaving them, he told them:

Matthew 28:19-20 – New International Version

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Jesus’ disciples were told to go and make more disciples, and teach them everything he taught them, and then teach them to in turn make more disciples, until the world is evangelized. That is discipleship, and every believer is tasked with doing it. It is the divine mentorship program that the church is built on. It is how the gospel of Jesus Christ would reach the ends of the earth throughout the age.

A good discipleship program helps you know your faith, the word of God, and cause you to grow strong into a mature Christian and helps you to develop a strong love for your heavenly father, and to know and obey him more.

And so it is with you. The deeper you root your life in Christ, the stronger you’ll become.
